Thanks to you, Megan, and your dad, for making the long trek and bringing the bees safely to Albuquerque. Thanks to Phill for hosting the pick-up. My two packages are settling in nicely.

Thank you Megan! The bees arrived in fine shape and are going gangbusters.  I'll see you tomorrow at the open space, meanwhile I have a question:

  My bees are going wild making new honeycomb, but I didn't see any capped brood and wouldn't even begin to know which is the queen, given the swam inside the hive!  I don't want to mess with them too much, since the fresh honeycomb is fragile in the topbar. 

How long does it take from the time the bees are hived, to the time the queen is mated and begins to lay?  It's been 5 days since I got them.  I'm assuming that the honeycomb making is a good thing!
