Albuquerque Beekeepers

Urban beekeeping in New Mexico's largest city.

I'll be getting my first bees this spring. In the meantime, the bees from the forest visit my chicken pen for food and the sugar water I put out for them. Recently I've started seeing more of the dark/black bees amongst the other bees. Can someone more knowledgeable than I identify them?

Have you tried looking at https://www.beesinyourbackyard.com/ ? Maybe you can email them a photo thebeesinyourbackyard@gmail.com

or search for the_bees_in_your_backyard on Instagram.  Good luck

I sent a direct message to the_bees_in_your_backyard Instagram with your photos and they confirmed that it is a dark Honey Bee (apis mellifera)  At first I thought is was a little small to be apis mellifera but was wrong.

Thanks Randy. I was unfamiliar with that site
