I took your intro class in the South Valley this past May and I am working this summer on my continued beekeeping study for my VCFA master's thesis in design. I wonder if you would be OK me posting to the ABQ Beeks site or on our FB site a short three questions that I have created on Survey Monkey. This is to gather answers for some very basic beekeeping questions. All the information is kept confidential. Thank you for your consideration. ~ Mary Hanrahan
Are the bees a nuisance currently? My bees were really flying today, but it was 60+ degrees today, so I'm assuming these garage bees were out and about as well. Is their hive entry impeding anyone's access into/out of the garage? We've still got some cold days and nights ahead, but those bees are starting to think about spring, and so the queen's starting to lay. If you can delay the takeout for about a month you shouldn't have any survival problems. Ask the homeowners to keep you alerted to any increased activity levels, and plan on a nice warm day in late February for your takeout.
Hello Jessie me and my daughter (sofia ) are interested in starting a hive. we have "lots" to learn and are looking forward to the meeting. we have a few questions if you dont mind answering? where and how do you keep your bees in the winter? how much space do you need to have a hive? Thanks, JAKE
Thanks Jessie, my former boss worked on a farm over the weekend and picked up a box of horse manure. I would like some direction on the how too of smoking the hive and before that lighting the fuel When you get back of course.
Hey Jessie, this is Robert. I finally got my smoker and now need some of your "natural smoking fuel" Think I could get some from you? I've been wanting to become more involved with hive life and don't feel comfortable without smoking the hive before I visit. Thanks, Robert.
You were a rock star; invaluable for mindset, knowledge, and all the equipment I haven't managed to acquire yet. Most of the bees are in the hive now (box was empty so I brought it inside and a small clump still in the thorn bush). I switched entrances around dusk as everyone seemed settle for the night.
